IVP

Introduction:

An IVP (intravenous pyelogram) is an exam of the kidneys, ureter and bladder. Iodinated dye is injected; this is excreted by the kidneys and allows preferential visualization of these structures when x-rays are taken. This exam is useful in the evaluation of kidney stones, blood in the urine, detection of tumors, the evaluation recurrent urinary infections among others.

Preparation:

COLON CLEANSING

* YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE THESE ITEMS
1: Magnesium Citrate 10oz (one bottle)
2: Dulcolax or Bisacodyl tablets (2 tablets)
3: Enema

*The day BEFORE your exam you need to follow the following instructions*

- In the morning have a light breakfast
- 12:00 pm (noon) you can have a light lunch
- 1:00 pm 8 oz of water take DULCOLAX OR BISACODYL tablets (2 TABLETS) swallow tablets whole with full glass of water do not chew or dissolve tablets
- 2:00 pm 8 oz of water
- 3:00 pm 8 oz of water
- 4:00 pm 8 oz of water
- 5:00 pm 8 oz of wate
- 6:00 pm take MAGNESIUM CITRATE 10OZ (ONE BOTTLE) You can drink some water if you would like
- 7:00 pm 8 oz of water
- 8:00 pm 8 oz of water
- Morning of exam 2-3 hours before you leave your home use the enema
